The G’morning Shot for May 21, 2012 9

Ring of Fire, annular solar eclipse. I did not take this and do not know who did. It came across my Facebook page. All I know it that it was taken in Roswell, NM. I love how it was taken through the trees and appears no filter was used – the photographer may have dropped the exposure all the way down. Regardless, it is a phenomenal photo.

The Parting Shot for May 20, 2012 11

The Annular Solar Eclipse. This is the photo I took when the moon was in the dead-center, middle of the sun. An absolutely SPECTACULAR event and evening. Albuquerque NM, where I live, was the “hot spot” for the eclipse as the path was a direct line through the city.

It truly was a magical evening. I will be posting more photos tomorrow. I do all my photography in raw format so I go through my images one at a time, tweak then convert to jpg. A bit time-consuming, but worth it. Image is much better in full size, so just click on it, please.

I am locked and loaded and ready to go! Solar eclipse, here I come! 14

LOL… no, not locked and loaded as in guns, rather photography. This evening, right before sunset is an annular eclipse. Lucky me… Albuquerque is the spot to be! Here are some of the details….

• Sun will be low on the horizon for the event.

• The centerline for the event passes nearly through the Albuquerque International Airport. Any location in the metro area will provide an excellent view of the eclipse.

Rush Limbaugh Inducted into the Hall of Fame 25

Yes, seriously. This bigoted, hateful man was inducted into the Missouri Hall of Fame last week. I’m utterly stupefied with this move. People are chosen for Hall of Fame’s for the good they have done to society. For positive words and acts. Deeds which portray kindness and caring for their fellow man. Do any of these descriptions fit Limbaugh’s persona? Ummm… no.

State House Speaker Steven Tilley (R-Perryville) chose Limbaugh, baseball legend Buck O’Neil and former slave Dred Scott for the distinction this year. The statues are commissioned using private funds.

Rape in the Military is an “Occupational Hazard” 66

Earlier today I went to see the film The Invisible War which is a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of our country’s most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within our US military. The Invisible War won the 2012 Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. It is a difficult film to watch, but a very important one. It is the sort of documentary made not only to portray the world, but to change the world. In this case, change can’t come soon enough.

Some People are Just NOT the Sharpest Knife in the Drawer 30

Here are some Facebook FAILS that are too funny not to share. Even if you are not a Facebooker, you have to admit, some of these are pretty good. A few are due to not catching the phone’s spell-check before posting, but most are because the person posting is simply not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Their elevator doesn’t go to the top floor. The light’s on but no one’s home. A few screws short of a hardware store. About as sharp as a marble. Alright, that’s enough. Here they are….

WWII Child Survivors Honor their Savior, Sir Nicholas Winton 11

Very touching story and short video.

As World War II was brewing in Europe, one man, Sir Nicholas Winton, worked in secret to sneak 669 children out of German-occupied Czechoslovakia to safety in England in an operation later known as the Czech Kindertransport. Winton found homes for them and arranged for their safe passage to Britain.

Years later, his wife was going through the attic and discovered the documents detailing her husbands heroism and sent them to the BBC. They then organized this event to honor one of the greatest, humblest, and most inspirational men who’s ever been born. Sir Nicholas Winton.

Dog Grabs Video Camera and Films his Owners Trying to Catch Him 7

This is too funny. When video recording their pet Spaniel, the owners set the camera down on the floor. Why, I have no clue. But their pooch decided that he wanted his shot at doing some filming and picks it up in his mouth. Fortunately, camera-dog managed to pick up the camera and hold it in just the right position so you see a forward shot of him running around the house playing keep away, and catch glimpses of humans attempting to catch camera-dog.

First Face Transplant Gives an Amazing Transformation | Photos 5

Here are some photos from TIME Photos which show the transformation of Richard Lee Norris’s faces before and after the first-ever facial transplant.

According to TIME, the Office of Naval Research has funded work into vascularized composite transplantation that led to a vascularized composite allograft – a face transplant – for a 37-year old Virginia man at the University of Maryland a week ago. There are some 200 U.S. veterans who might benefit from such an operation.

The G’morning Shot for May 16, 2012 17

The piece features Union Jack flags draped across the wall and applied to the artist’s signature stencil of a child working on a sewing machine. Created in line with the royal Diamond Jubilee celebration to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 60-year reign, it’s said that the piece hopes to put spotlight on child labor issues.

Banksy’s gonna have a heyday with the summer Olympics going on in London.

Young Man Nurses and Raises an Injured Baby Hummingbird | Heart-warming Video 4

An utterly mesmerizing video of a young man who rescued an injured baby hummingbird after it was attacked. He took the tiny and vulnerable bird in, fed it and raised to being an adult.

This video is truly magical especially when watching the hummingbird flit from one of his hands to the other, light as a feather with a natural poetic grace. It is almost as if the hummingbird shows love and adoration on it’s face when he is with the man. Just as parents love to capture video of their child’s first steps, in this video we get to see the hummingbird’s first flight, and first visit outside.

Now THIS is How to Wake Up a Kid Sleeping in the Car 6

Hilarious viral video on how to wake up a sleeping 3-year old in the back seat of a car. Home video out of Norway (I believe). From the story in the comments, the last time they went to wake up the child, he was very grumpy and cranky. Therefore this time around, they decided to treat him to the “alarm clock” of “Breed” by Nirvana.

Video now has over 3 million hits after being uploaded on April 25, 2012.

Is Mitt Romney’s historical attitude a warning of what’s to come? 7

There have been many items within Mitt’s history that when combined together as one becomes a very frightening sense of foreshadowing of what is yet to be should he take office as POTUS. In review, first off, we all know the story of how Mitt and his family drove across country with his dog, Seamus, riding in a dog crate on top of their vehicle – for a 12-hour drive. Seamus ended up defecating in his crate so much that the feces ended up sliding down the rear window.

Man Tries to Stop Wife from Voting Against WI Scott Walker; She Hits Him with SUV 13

I love this story.

Amanda Radle, 30, wanted to vote for in the gubernatorial primary, and she supports the effort to recall Walker, who has infuriated the state’s unions with his initiatives to cut benefits and limit collective bargaining.

Basically, Amanda and her husband, Jeffrey Radle, 36, were arguing in front of their Chippewa Falls, Wisc., home about who she was planning on voting for. Jeffrey and his brother, Mike Radle, are staunch supporters of Walker. When Amanda went to leave, her husband stood in front of her SUV and refused to let her pass. Eventually she found a “hole” and attempted to escape – but Jeffrey (stupidly) jumped in front of the vehicle.
