NATO Protest Photos from Chicago | What the news didn’t show you… Reply

This is a two-part publication. This first post is to show the photos, the sheer volume of people that both live in Chicago and traveled there to protest NATO.

Anti-NATO protestors gathered near McCormick Place, the site of the largest NATO summit in the organization’s six-decade history. There were thousands of protestors, and not just Occupy Movement protestors. These were people from all walks of life, all types of backgrounds who joined together to protest one of the most powerful alliances in the world. In the days leading up to the two-day summit, nurses rallied in a downtown plaza to call for a “Robin Hood” tax on banks’ financial transactions. The next day, groups marched to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s house to protest the closure of six community mental health clinics.

Photos from Annular Solar Eclipse, May 20 2012, Albuquerque NM 37

Here are some photos from the annular eclipse on May 20, 2012. All taken in Albuquerque, New Mexico right next to the airport.

Myself and my friend, Dave, were the first two there as we got there early. Shortly another car rolled in, and another. We ended up having about 15 cars there. Most people were from out of state. Our “neighbors” came in from North Carolina. There was another gentleman from Maryland. I heard another woman mention she was from Kansas City, MO… and so on. Several telescopes were set up. Everyone bounced around from telescope to telescope to see the event. It was a wonderful day.

I am locked and loaded and ready to go! Solar eclipse, here I come! 14

LOL… no, not locked and loaded as in guns, rather photography. This evening, right before sunset is an annular eclipse. Lucky me… Albuquerque is the spot to be! Here are some of the details….

• Sun will be low on the horizon for the event.

• The centerline for the event passes nearly through the Albuquerque International Airport. Any location in the metro area will provide an excellent view of the eclipse.

Rush Limbaugh Inducted into the Hall of Fame 25

Yes, seriously. This bigoted, hateful man was inducted into the Missouri Hall of Fame last week. I’m utterly stupefied with this move. People are chosen for Hall of Fame’s for the good they have done to society. For positive words and acts. Deeds which portray kindness and caring for their fellow man. Do any of these descriptions fit Limbaugh’s persona? Ummm… no.

State House Speaker Steven Tilley (R-Perryville) chose Limbaugh, baseball legend Buck O’Neil and former slave Dred Scott for the distinction this year. The statues are commissioned using private funds.

Rape in the Military is an “Occupational Hazard” 58

Earlier today I went to see the film The Invisible War which is a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of our country’s most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within our US military. The Invisible War won the 2012 Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. It is a difficult film to watch, but a very important one. It is the sort of documentary made not only to portray the world, but to change the world. In this case, change can’t come soon enough.

Man Tries to Stop Wife from Voting Against WI Scott Walker; She Hits Him with SUV 13

I love this story.

Amanda Radle, 30, wanted to vote for in the gubernatorial primary, and she supports the effort to recall Walker, who has infuriated the state’s unions with his initiatives to cut benefits and limit collective bargaining.

Basically, Amanda and her husband, Jeffrey Radle, 36, were arguing in front of their Chippewa Falls, Wisc., home about who she was planning on voting for. Jeffrey and his brother, Mike Radle, are staunch supporters of Walker. When Amanda went to leave, her husband stood in front of her SUV and refused to let her pass. Eventually she found a “hole” and attempted to escape – but Jeffrey (stupidly) jumped in front of the vehicle.

My Mother Died from Mad Cow Disease in the US in 1986 38

I am so hopping mad, I am only able to see red right now….

I just finished watching Elizabeth Cohen on CNN tell how there has never been a case of a human contracting Mad Cow Disease in the United States. Well, Ms. Cohen is wrong. My mother died of the human form of Mad Cow Disease, otherwise known as Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (aka CJD), in 1986. The only time she had set foot outside of the United States was for a one-week trip to Austria in the late 1970′s. She was born and raised in Indiana, lived for a short period of time in Arizona, and never anywhere abroad.

Justice for Justice: Arrest Made for Dog Burned with Lighter Fluid 24

April 20 – How wonderful! Darius Ewing, who was wanted in connection to the puppy who was burned, has surrendered to the Dallas Police Department. He surrendered to police while a candle light vigil was being held by area animal advocates for the puppy named Justice, who died from his injuries.

The Police Department would like to thank the SPCA of Texas, animal advocacy groups, concerned citizens and Crimestoppers who pulled together to offer a reward in this case.

Justice: The Lab Mix Pup Burned with Lighter Fluid 22

Today I was sent this story about a dog named Justice, and it brought forth every emotion possible. Primarily, endless amount of rage, enormous pain and sadness. So why post something as deplorable as this story? For one, in hopes that someone will tip the police and the perpetrators will be arrested. But also to bring awareness that torture and cruelty to animals tragically exists. I do not know what the penalties are in the Dallas/Ft Worth area for this type of crime, but many cities and states do not have strong enough punishments to fit the crimes. Look into the facts in your area and help fight for stricter punishments for acts such as this….

American Nazi Party Registers their First Lobbyist 11

On Tuesday, the same day that West was fantasizing about 80 members of Congress being card-carrying members of the Communist Party, the actual American Nazi Party was making its move onto the Hill. One John Bowles registered with the Clerk of the House that day as a lobbyist for for the white supremacist group. Bowles was the National Socialist Movement’s presidential nominee in 2008.

Zimmerman Charged with Second-Degree Murder! 18

Yes, you read correctly. Finally. After all these weeks of a lot of hard work and perseverance from the public, Florida state attorney announced today that George Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the February 26 shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. I suspected this would happen by several recent occurrences – primarily Zimmerman’s “donate for my defense” website.

Wacko Woman Rips Off Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Scrotum 36

Yeah… I am sitting here with my legs crossed, too. The title alone is enough to make me cringe, but here is what happened….

On March 30th, Christina Reber busted into her ex-boyfriends apartment, first struck him in the head, then grabbed hold of his dangling jewels – and wouldn’t let go. The victim describes he was “in incredible pain when Reber grabbed [my] scrotum and began digging in with her fingers.” Finally, the ex-boyfriend was able to pry her hand away after they fell to the ground during their Battle for the Balls.

TX Tornadoes Toss Semi-Trucks Like Toys | Footage and Photos 4

Incredible footage of semi-trailer trucks literally sucked up in the air and tossed around as though they are match-box toys. Footage from the tornadoes which struck Dallas-Ft Worth on Tuesday. Heavy damage, yet no casualties. Very lucky.

If you have not seen this footage, it is amazing. I am from tornado alley, and my jaw still drops when I watch this. Found a nice HD upload from the CNN coverage, so you can really see nature at work here.

One Victory for the War Against Women 9

On Wednesday, the War Against Women was victorious in Oklahoma, which rather surprised me since Oklahoma is a bit more conservative than most other states. An Oklahoma district judge struck down a state law requiring women to have an ultrasound image placed in front of them and to listen to a detailed description of the fetus before having an abortion. District Judge Bryan Dixon ruled that the 2010 measure is an unconstitutional special law because it only affects patients, physicians, and sonographers who deal with abortions without addressing other medical care.

Student’s Hands and Feet Zip-Tied and Charged with Battery 20

Earlier in 2011, a Stockton CA student was handcuffed with zip ties on his hands and feet, forced to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was charged with battery on a police officer. Michael Davis is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. His mother says it has led to fights at school.

Doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary when considering that we are seeing a growing amount of violence from students, right? Well, there is one thing about Michael I have not mentioned yet…

Life Inside the CCA Owned New Mexico Women’s Prison 10

Here is a very well done report about the women’s prison in New Mexico. This report briefly covers the dog rescue and training program, Heeling Hearts. I am one of the original volunteers who helped coordinate and set up this program. I was unemployed during that time, which was back in 2007, therefore I was able to volunteer quite a bit of time then. My dear friend, Lyn, is still in charge of and running the program, so I get keep up with her about what is going on with the dogs and the women in the program.

Palin Plays Her Own Game in Response to HBO’s Movie “Game Change” 17

“Game Change” is an HBO exclusive movie that follows John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, from his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, to their ultimate defeat in the general election. It is scheduled to premier on March 10th at 9 PM EST. Do you plan on watching? At first, I had no desire to, but now I have changed my mind. My DVR is set and ready to record. I am actually looking forward to watching “Game Change.” I fully expect to be completely entertained in the same manner in which we are when watching the Three Stooges. However, I will have to turn the movie off if I become too overwhelmed from the harsh reality this pathetic woman came only a few steps away from the White House. That thought still gives me chills.
