Taos Pueblo
“Place of the Red Willows”

On a plaque in the Taos Visitors Center is written:

“The oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States has been acknowledged by historians
to be our home for more than 1,000 years.
They speculate about where we came from, but we already know the answer:
We have been here since time immemorial.”

This is a photo I took November 2010.

Pray Tell? What Is This Falling From the Sky? 5

Pray tell… what is this strange stuff falling from the sky? Would this be what they call rain? Why, I believe it is! And what is that strange looking thing on the ground? A puddle you say??? Why, I believe you’re right. I must go google what a puddle looks like to make sure that is indeed what this is!

Woke up this morning to actually see it was raining! What a wonderful thing!! New Mexico has been in a horrible drought for over a year now, ranging from severe to exceptional. Is our drought over now? Not even close.

Just had to take a few photos for memory’s sake… The first one is a lovely muddy paw print. Now, many people complain about their dogs dragging in mud. Here is my philosophy on this. For one, it means we have rain to make mud, but more importantly, it means I have two wonderful dogs living here with me. I will take the mud and the fur any day. The second is a nice capture of a drop of rainwater hanging from the eave.  More…

My Date with a Mannequin 8

LOL… Actually, this was my Victim-of-the-Day for my Project 365 (technically 366) – a photo a day for a year.  My project is now up to date, so please check out the new photos added.  Captured a brilliant photo of the Sandia Mountains yesterday.

The story on this one… I met my friend Lyn, a professional dog groomer, at the store she is going to move her business into.  The current business, which is some sort of sewing shop, obviously has not yet moved out all their equipment and supplies.  I glance to the right, see a very large full-body mirror and a half-body dress form mannequin.  I could not resist the urge to have some fun.  This photo is more PG-13… I have some others that would border more on an R rating…   Shop Name:  Completely Gone to the Dogs;  Location:  Tramway and San Rafael, Albuquerque NM.

Fire, Floods, Snow and Ice Strikes the Western US | Video Photos 10

Funny weather forecast. Click to enlarge.

A state of emergency has been declared in Oregon and Washington, where a powerful winter storm brought deadly floods, heavy snows of up to 4 feet, a severe ice storm, and damaging winds Wednesday and Thursday. Heavy rains of 3 – 8 inches have fallen over a wide swath of Western Oregon since Monday, causing major to record flooding on multiple rivers and creeks. In Albany, Oregon, a family of four drove out of a supermarket parking lot and into a flooded Perwinkle Creek Wednesday night, and were swept away. Two people were rescued, but a 20-month-old boy and his mother drowned. The Marys River in Philomath rose to its highest flood on record yesterday, and will remain at major flood stage today before gradually receding tonight. The rains have tapered off over much of the region today, but renewed rains are expected later today and intermittently into early next week.

Project 365 2012 All Caught Up 5

I just updated my Project 365 | 2012 post with a weeks worth of photos.  I have been house and dog sitting since last week and just now returned home to process my photos.  Even though I had my laptop, I prefer doing all my photo work on my desktop since I have it set up for raw photography work.  Please check out my new additions.

Here is one photo, though, of my “special little guy.”  This is my dog “Dork.”  Yes, I call him Dork.  Why?  Because he’s a dork!  Born completely deaf and blind in his left eye (known as a “lethal white” Aussie), he’ll just kinda bounce around, happy as can be, and occasionally bump into a corner – or me.  Then he kind of looks at what he ran into like, “Where’d that come from???”  Then move on his merry ol’ way. My Little Joke I Pulled Today 3

I am currently house and dog-sitting for my dear friend, Lyn. She called a few weeks back and told me that she decided to fly to Kansas City to visit her brother whom she has not seen in years, and asked if I could watch the dogs and house. How could I say “no.” Lyn has always been there for me, even allowing me to rent (very cheaply) a spare bedroom for nearly two years when I was struggling through some financial difficulties. And, fortunately for me, Lyn has always been a great sport when I pull my little wise-ass jokes on her, like borrowing one of her cars when mine was in the shop. I returned home and basically asked her out right, “Sooooo… who is your auto insurance carrier again?” You know… stupid little stuff like that all the time. But before I go into the one today, you need to understand a bit more about Lyn. More…

Luxury Liner Sinking off of the Coast of Italy | Amazing Photos 9

Rome (CNN) – At least three people were killed and scores remain unaccounted for as a giant cruise ship keeled onto its side after running aground near the Italian island of Giglio on Friday night, local emergency officials said Saturday.

Rescue teams worked through the night to evacuate more than 4,000 people from the Costa Concordia, owned by Genoa-based Costa Cruises, after it ran aground off of Italy’s western coast. More…

Talk About An Inspiring Photo… 6

Athlete Aimee Mullins

“Born without fibulae in both legs, Aimee’s medical prognosis was discouraging; she was told she would never walk, and would likely spend the rest of her life using a wheelchair. In an attempt for an outside chance at independent mobility, doctors amputated both her legs below the knee on her first birthday. The decision paid off. By age two, she had learned to walk on prosthetic legs, and spent her childhood doing the usual athletic activities of her peers: swimming, biking, softball, soccer, and skiing, always alongside “able-bodies” kids.” More…

Project 365 | 2012 45

I have decided to do a Project 365 this year.  Well, technically this year it is a Project 366.  What is a Project 365 (aka Photo 365)?  Take one photo a day for a consecutive three hundred and sixty five days of the year.  Many people choose to have a theme or topic, but I have decided to go easy on myself this first year and have no specific topic.

Sandia Ranch | Photo journey through an old haunted insane asylum 3

Sandia Ranch Sanatorium is one of Albuquerque’s local urban legends. An old abandoned insane asylum which was known for performing lobotomies and using electro-shock therapy is reported to be haunted. Several rumors exist including those of murder in addition to how the staff would store the bodies of the “batched” lobotomies in the crawl space in the boiler room. More…

Photos taken in RAW format with my Canon Rebel T2i 4

Just under two months ago, I purchased my first “real” camera… a Canon Rebel T2i. Oh, how I love this camera! I have always been passionate about photography and finally decided to make the move and invest in something more than a “point and shoot” auto-focus pocket-style camera. I am so glad I did… no regrets here. When looking back at my childhood, I have to laugh… whenever my mother would take the camera film in to be developed, I would always get in trouble. You see, when she picked up the photos, the entire roll would typically be pictures of our dogs and cats – which were my favorite subjects when I would sneak the camera out of the cupboard. More…
