NJ Gov. Chris Christie Vetoes Same-Sex Marriage Bill 18

The New Jersey state Assembly passed the same-sex marriage bill yesterday, and today, just as Governor Chris Christie promised, he vetoed it. In the coverage I just watched on World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer, Christie makes these two statements, which made me absolutely livid:

“I believe that the institution of marriage is traditionally known as one man and one woman and should stay that way in New Jersey.”

I am a Forever Dog, Not an Until Dog 11

Last night when I posted about the protests at the Westminster, I also included the image below which has the blurred out dog in the middle. The original image was not blurred out but featured a cute little puppy. Today, I received an email from a very kind woman, who I will call “Jayne Dough”, who informed me that she originated that graphic by using a photo of a puppy she found on the internet.

Rolling Stones Urinals Not Relieving to Some Critics 15

The men’s restroom in the recently opened Rolling Stones museum in Lüchow, Germany, features Mick Jagger’s famous lips-shaped urinals. I am sure most men find them “relieving,” however some women do not.

Since the urinals do not include the tongue, some women are offended and see the urinals as nothing more than a woman’s mouth in which a man is taking a leak into. “It’s discrimination against women,” local feminist Roda Armbruster tells Hamburg based broadcast network NDR.

What a Moving Weekend 12

Yes, it was a very moving weekend. Literally. Moved from my little casita into two bedrooms in my dear friend Lyn’s house. I hate moving. Is there anyone who enjoys it? If so, they have to be a masochist. I think I would rather receive paper cuts in all the webbing between my toes and fingers than I would pack and move. Did that make you cringe as that paper cut visual came to your mind? I did.

A Tax on Sugar Proposed 8

According to pediatrics and obesity specialist Robert Lustig and health policy researchers Laura Schmidt and Claire Brindis, all at the University of California at San Francisco, sugar should be identified alongside alcohol and tobacco as a health danger, and governments should tax sweetened drinks and food as part of their efforts to combat it.

Karl Rove ‘offended’ by Clint Eastwood’s Chrysler Ad 21

I just KNEW that some right-wingnuts would start crying about that ad. What? Don’t like your nose rubbed in it? In an ad touting the resurgence of the American auto industry, Clint Eastwood declared that it’s “halftime in America and our second half’s about to begin,” which could be interpreted as a reference to Obama’s second term.

Mandatory Male Birth Control | What’s Good for the Goose… 9

I remembered an idea I came up with several months ago when I was reading about how Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) on Monday attached an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication. Howell’s amendment was in protest to a bill that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion.

Highlights of Obama’s State of the Union Address 7

This year, thanks to Huffington Post publishing Obama’s entire speech on line, I was able to read while listening to the President speak. This helped the words sink in more clearly – and, for the most part, I liked what I heard. For the most part. Simply because I am a Democrat does not necessarily mean I will agree with everything the President had to say. His speech was encouraging and very refreshing to hear, especially after we have all been witnessing the deterioration of our country.

Obama began by honoring the enlisted and veterans by saying,

Pray Tell? What Is This Falling From the Sky? 5

Pray tell… what is this strange stuff falling from the sky? Would this be what they call rain? Why, I believe it is! And what is that strange looking thing on the ground? A puddle you say??? Why, I believe you’re right. I must go google what a puddle looks like to make sure that is indeed what this is!

Woke up this morning to actually see it was raining! What a wonderful thing!! New Mexico has been in a horrible drought for over a year now, ranging from severe to exceptional. Is our drought over now? Not even close.

Just had to take a few photos for memory’s sake… The first one is a lovely muddy paw print. Now, many people complain about their dogs dragging in mud. Here is my philosophy on this. For one, it means we have rain to make mud, but more importantly, it means I have two wonderful dogs living here with me. I will take the mud and the fur any day. The second is a nice capture of a drop of rainwater hanging from the eave.  More…

Anonymous’s Next Target: Facebook January 28 7

“An online war has begun between Anonymous, the people, and the government of the United States,” the narrator begins. The reason: SOPA, PIPA and other perceived threats to Internet rights.

In order to bring down Facebook, the video asks for everyone who understands and supports Anonymous’ position to participate in this online protest. This is a protest that began over the last week, says the narrator, with attacks on the CBS.com, Warner Brothers, and FBI sites.

As a Country, Are We Really That Gullible? 7

Click on the picture to view full size

Lies, lies and more lies. Honestly, I grew up in a family with high, respectable morals. You just do not lie. End of story. Mistakes may be made, but learn from them and move on. Therefore, with these values embedded in my mind, it is natural for me to believe rather than disbelieve. For the most part, on an individual basis, I still do. However, with the lies which have emerged from the Megaupload take-down, does the government really think the people of this country are that gullible? We must be as so much shit passes before our eyes.

Kudos to 365 Veterans Blog 7

Although relatively new to the WordPress blogging community, I quickly fell in love with it. The variety of blogs are endless, and those who write their own work do so from the heart – not due to a paycheck from a corporation. The wisdom and insight from many bloggers is a gift to those readers who open their minds, love to learn, and respect the opinions of others. This does not necessarily mean everyone must agree to different opinions as I’m sure mine have p.o.’d many people, but there is always something which may be gained when you look hard enough.

Because I do so support this community, anytime anyone new “likes” a post or comments, I enjoy going to their site to see what new adventures await me. I this case, a “like” came from a blogger who was new to me. Onward “click” I go, and what I found completely warmed my heart…. Project 365 / Honoring a Veteran a day, for a year. More…

Keystone XL DENIED! Obama Threatened by Oil Companies 7

The Keystone XL pipeline was denied today by Obama – at least for now. TransCanada will be allowed to refile. This is hailed as a huge victory by those opposed to the pipeline, and I am sure the earth, environment and wildlife appreciate this as well.

I checked out #keystone on Twitter a while ago and just happened to catch Boehners tweet that Obama is killing thousands of jobs. Well, horse hockies! Do people really buy this line of crap? And as if this is the only source of jobs available in this country? First of all, bring back all our jobs that are now overseas – such as the 200,000 jobs displaced to China via Wal-Mart. This alone will well exceed Boehners over-inflated amount of jobs from the Keystone XL pipeline. I just bet that ol’ Sam Walton is turning over in his grave since he did found his company on the belief of all Made in the USA products – then his money-grubbing children changed all that. What about a combination of American companies, not just Wal-Mart? The Economic Policy Institute, a Washington think tank, says American companies have created 1.4 million jobs overseas in 2010. The Best Statement Yet On Why Stopping SOPA/PIPA Must Succeed 1

By far, this is the best summaries I have seen yet about why it is important to stop SOPA/PIPA….

It’s not a coincidence that the Global Democracy Movement is happening now, just as technology is emerging to allow the People to stand up to military dictators and banking oligarchies using Facebook and Twitter.  You see, the fate of democracy and the fate of the Internet are intimately linked.  This is why the movement to stop SOPA has been so powerful, and, this is why it must succeed. ~ Eric Byler http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/sopa

The Great Internet Black Out Has Commenced 1

On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill – PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House – to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. Many sites have blacked out today in protest of the SOPA/PIPA bills and followed Reddit’s lead. And finally this is getting some major media coverage.  Check them out…. More…

The Greatest Protest in History Has Just Started 6

There have been so many large protests throughout the history of mankind, but in my opinion, so many sites going black ranks now as Number One!  The organization, the participation is on such a grand scale!  Many sites are going black from 8 AM to 8 PM EST on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, but Wikipedia went black as of midnight. My Little Joke I Pulled Today 3

I am currently house and dog-sitting for my dear friend, Lyn. She called a few weeks back and told me that she decided to fly to Kansas City to visit her brother whom she has not seen in years, and asked if I could watch the dogs and house. How could I say “no.” Lyn has always been there for me, even allowing me to rent (very cheaply) a spare bedroom for nearly two years when I was struggling through some financial difficulties. And, fortunately for me, Lyn has always been a great sport when I pull my little wise-ass jokes on her, like borrowing one of her cars when mine was in the shop. I returned home and basically asked her out right, “Sooooo… who is your auto insurance carrier again?” You know… stupid little stuff like that all the time. But before I go into the one today, you need to understand a bit more about Lyn. More…

Mitt Romney Completely Blows Off a Dying Man 9

This footage was taken from 2007, but Mitt’s opinions still have not changed. In this footage, you will witness the true cold, callous nature of this man running for POTUS.

It is not clear where this is filmed, but there is quite a bit of handshaking is going on. A young man in a wheelchair proceeds to tell Mitt that he suffers from a very rare type of Muscular Dystrophy and will eventually die from it, in addition to the fact that he now weighs less than 80 lbs. Medical marijuana is what he requires in order to stimulate an appetite and tolerate the suffering he endures every moment of his life.  when Mitt mentions that there is synthetic marijuana, the young man informs Mitt that he has tried synthetic, but it makes him sick and he cannot tolerate it – which is most likely true. He then directly asks Mitt, “My question to you is, will you arrest me and my doctors if I get medical marijuana without {inaudible].” Just watch Mitt’s reaction. More…

Follow-Up Interview with Woman Hit on Bus by Cop 5

Julie Nelson, 42 years old, was the woman who was hit by an LA deputy on the bus. The brutality was caught on cell phone video and since gone viral.

The chain of events began when a fellow passenger called 911 to say that Nelson was threatening people while waiting at a bus stop in Bellflower. Nelson did admit to the reporter that there was a verbal confrontation. According to the LA County Deputies Department, the two officers that boarded the bus recognized the woman from prior issues.

This first video below is the raw footage taken by a cell phone camera. More…

WordPress Comes Out STRONGLY Against SOPA/PIPA 5

I have been doing the “happy dance” since I read that WordPress is now strongly voicing their opposition to SOPA/PIPA.  If you are not sure what SOPA/PIPA (yeah, I know… saying SOPA and PIPA consecutively sounds like a Mexican fried pastry)… anyway, if you are not sure what it is, please click on my SOPA/PIPA category in the top menu and side bar to catch up on what has been going on.  Basically, rather than corporations, such as Disney, Viacom, Nike, and many others, using their attorney’s to file suit against those who infringe upon their copyright’s, these supporters want the government to do their dirty-work for them – thus saving all that precious money and profit even more.  On a simple accusation, these bills will allow any corporation to shut down any website WITHOUT PROOF of infringement.  As WordPress says: More…

Candle Lighter Award 15

I am relatively new to the blogging scene with this site having been born in early April.  What I am even newer to is the WordPress community.  It has only been the past couple of months that I have started clicking on the avatars of some interesting comments on one blog, bounce to another blog, and another and another, all continuing to find more wonderful posts, photography, humor, news, etc.  A virtual cornucopia of a cyber-world of information.  I have subbed so many sites now that my inbox is never empty, and I check out each and every post notification.  So when I received a Candle Lighter award from The Ranting Liberal, I was tickled pink!
