The toad was the snail’s partner in slime last night.

Photo I took not more than 20 minutes ago of a snail outside on the hose in the flower garden. Do click on the image TWICE (not fast, not a double-click – once to enlarge and another to increase to full size). You can really see it up close. At the end of each antennae is a black dot… those are the snail’s eyes! Pretty cool! And yes, that is my dog’s white fur all over it. They love to share!

During the convention I attended in Indianapolis, we had a “fun” day where we could choose from a list of activities to attend. For example, there was a micro-brewery tour, nine-holes of golf, paddle boats in the park, etc. I choose the “behind the scenes at the zoo” option. We went behind the scenes to visit a couple penguins who “painted.” Basically, non-toxic paint on their feet and they walked across a canvas. This is a photo of the two penguins we got to meet. They were in a good mood this day so we were able to pet them… and they’re so soft!!! The lighting was rather dim, and not wanting to use a flash as that can startle them, I had to set my camera on an ISO of 6400, which gave the image a very grainy look. I have removed some of the graininess in Photoshop, but it tends “warp” some of the edges. Nonetheless, here are the two female penguins which painted for us….

Photo I took of a penguin swimming. I love this shot because you can see his whole body which about 25% is above water and the rest below. It was a difficult shot because those buggers swim FAST! Hard to focus and snap while keeping the camera on the guy – or gal. The glass is very scratched as well, so this is the best shot I got out of the bunch.

Photo I took of a walrus doing laps in his pool. Taken at the Indianapolis Zoo… on one of the hottest days in recorded history. It hit 105 degrees that day. Needless to say, I am glad to be back in the desert where it’s only 98 degrees… and 3% humidity.

On June 18th, I featured a “G’morning Shot” of a snail taking a drink of water. I have stumbled across some more of this same photographer’s work and find this one even more magical than the previous one I posted. We have all seen majestic pictures of the mighty polar bear in their northern climate of snow and ice, commonly swimming in frigid blue waters. Or in the zoo with children gazing up at them through the glass with a look of complete wonder in their eyes. But this is the first time I have seen a polar bear surrounded in a field of vivid purple flowers. What an amazing contrast and breathtaking photo.

Here we have Mr. Canadian Goose finishing off his perfect performance with a pirouette. “Dancing with Water Fowl” is sure to be a hit show here in it’s first season. For all viewers, do not forget to enter your recipe for the perfect sauce which will compliment the rich taste of water fowl. An utterly mesmerizing video of a young man who rescued an injured baby hummingbird after it was attacked. He took the tiny and vulnerable bird in, fed it and raised to being an adult.
This video is truly magical especially when watching the hummingbird flit from one of his hands to the other, light as a feather with a natural poetic grace. It is almost as if the hummingbird shows love and adoration on it’s face when he is with the man. Just as parents love to capture video of their child’s first steps, in this video we get to see the hummingbird’s first flight, and first visit outside.
