Afterthought post-publishing: As an after-thought after I have published this, I have stated somewhat incorrectly…. The OWS Movement welcomes all groups and people alike. The Black Bloc is a part of OWS, just as any group. However, the actions of the Black Bloc during the strike in Oakland does not represent what the OWS movement is about.
The 99 percent were out in force on Wednesday, November 2nd, in Oakland CA. As many as 10,000 marchers protested income inequality and the big banks that crashed the global economy (and today are more profitable than ever). Schools and businesses closed in sympathy and solidarity, and the march even shut down the Port of Oakland, one of the busiest on the West Coast.

An estimated ten-thousand Wall Street protesters marched in the streets of Oakland on Wednesday as they geared up with labor unions to picket banks, take over foreclosed homes and vacant buildings and disrupt operations at the nation’s fifth-busiest port.
The protests marked an escalation from previous demonstrations as they went beyond boisterous rallies at park encampments and took aim at a major hub of commerce — the Port of Oakland. Organizers say they want to halt “the flow of capital” at the port.

This is horrible. A young man served our country in Iraq, came home alive only to be taken down by the police of the country of which he served. The irony of it all. A very sad state out country has become.
A U.S. Marine veteran is in a critical condition in hospital tonight after being injured by a police gas canister during last night’s Occupy Oakland protests, which saw running battles break out between authorities and protesters as a crowd tried to reclaim an encampment.
Scott Olsen, 24, of Daly City, California, an Iraq veteran and member of Veterans for Peace, suffered a skull fracture and brain swelling after being hit in the head during the riots. Officers had cleared the site of demonstrators around 12 hours earlier in a dawn raid where at least 85 people were arrested.
