Manila’s North Cemetary Where the Living Reside Among the Dead 6

The Manila North Cemetery (or Cementerio del Norte formerly known also as “Paang Bundok”), which measures 54 hectares, is considered the biggest and one of the oldest cemeteries in Metro Manila.  There are typically anywhere between 70 to 80 funerals a day here.  The cemetery is owned by the Manila city government and has initiated an expansion program to build more “apartment tombs” and a crematorium. The Inner Guts of My Computer | Before and After Photos 12

After

Well, today was a quiet, peaceful Christmas day, which is exactly what I needed.  Spent some time with someone very dear to me, and also managed to get quite a bit done computer-wise.  Reinstalled Ubuntu on one of my laptops, set up Filezilla, installed a new router, started researching other hosting companies to move to and get off of GoDaddy, and… cleaned my computer.  I live in New Mexico and, well, this is the desert and there is a LOT of dust here.  Especially after the drought we’ve been in for a year now.  So thought I would share some before and after pictures.  This is only after five months as my system was cleaned out just last July. On Saturday, a retired bishop was among more than 50 people arrested after the Occupy Wall Street movement stormed another New York City park in an attempt to find a new home.

TIME 2011 Person of the Year: The Protester 4

Mannoubia Bouazizi, the mother of Tunisian street vendor Mohamed Bouazizi, says, "Mohamed suffered a lot. He worked hard. But when he set fire to himself, it wasn’t about his scales being confiscated. It was about his dignity."

The decision has been made.  The Protester is TIME Magazines Person of the Year, and what a wonderful choice.

The Protester is not dreaming of nor coveting millions of dollars, nor titles such as President, Ruler, King, Queen, Sheik, etc.  All The Protester is wanting is a fair shake at life.  The ability and opportunity to find gainful employment, take care of their family, keep a roof over their head and food on their table, the ability for quality health care, reasonable tuition for a higher education… these are only a few of the many desires the average citizen of all countries want, including our own.

And this year, they spoke and will continue to speak until change is made for the betterment and fairness for all. More…

Tribute to Harry Morgan, Col Potter M*A*S*H* | Goodbye, Farewell and Amen 3

Like so many people, I grew up watching M*A*S*H* and loved each and every character and episode.  Harry Morgan, born April 10, 1915 died on December 7, 2011, was best known for his role at Colonel Sherman T. Potter in M*A*S*H* (1975–1983).  His other roles were as Pete Porter in both December Bride (1954–1959) and Pete and Gladys (1960–1962), Detective Bill Gannon on Dragnet (1967–1970), Amos Coogan on Hec Ramsey (1972–1974), and AfterMASH (1983-1984). Additionally, Morgan appeared in more than 100 films. More…

Funnies, political cartoons, charts, quotes, and photos about current news Reply

A variety of political cartoon, funnies, quotes, photos and charts all about what is in today’s news, including the economy, politics, and the Occupy Movement.

Also included are several letters in regards to student loan debt.  When I started college in the fall of 1982, my tuition at Purdue, in-state and full time, was just under $800 per semester. I graduated debt-free.  Now, students will graduate with a four-year degree often well into six-figures in debt.  Higher eduction has evolved into a “damned if you do, and damned if you don’t” opportunity. Black Friday stampedes. There are other alternatives… 4

In watching these videos of footage from today’s Black Friday’s stampedes, I honestly just do not understand this.  I don’t.  Why do people do this?  They are very apparently risking injury to themselves and others, as well as being a target for robberies and a possible punching bag for an irate shopper simply standing next to you. Chaos ensues at Wal*Mart and other stores on Black Friday Reply

For new 2012 Black Friday footage, click here.

Violence marred Black Friday shopping in at least five states, including a California incident in which police say a woman doused fellow shoppers with pepper spray in a bid to cut to the head of the line.

The incident happened at a Walmart in the Porter Ranch area of Los Angeles, police spokesman Officer Robert Chavira said.

About 15 people were exposed to the spray. Los Angeles firefighters treated them at the scene and no one required hospitalization, Chavira said.

The woman was able to pay for her purchases and leave the store before police arrived, Chavira said. More…

UC Davis Photos and Video of pepper spray incident. Are we in a police state? #ows 4

Our country has evolved right before our very eyes into a police state.  Yes, a police state.  Many cringe at these words and deny their existence within our own country, but look at what has been going on.  Our First Amendment’s right to free speech and peaceful assembly is being blatantly denied.  City by city, camp by camp, the police are coming in armed for warfare and using violent tactics and pepper spray on completely unarmed individuals.  Where is our President during all this?  Until recently, I have fully supported Obama, but now, I have some serious doubts as to whether he is acting in behalf of the people of our country – or if he is acting in behalf of those people “behind the curtain” holding all the money and corruption – in other words, the Oligarchs.  Does our president need to be reminded of these very words he spoke by on January 28th in regards to the Egyptian Revolution? Photos / Video of Occupy Wall Street “Day of Action” Nov 17th #ows 1

Today, Thursday November 17th, marked the two-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement.  Just 60 days ago, a few hundred arrived at Wall Street to take up camp and occupy the area in protest to the greed and corruption within our government and corporations.  The main stream media refused to cover the inaugural event instead covering such events such as the Tea Party.  Many scoffed and did not believe this would take hold.  Now the media cannot get enough coverage especially since this only brings in more profit.  Look at how this has grown throughout the country with an Occupy movement in nearly every major city, and hundreds of smaller “home towns.”  Not only has this spread throughout the United States, but has taken hold world-wide. Occupy Oakland | Photos from strike November 2, 2011 #oo #ows 1

An estimated ten-thousand Wall Street protesters marched in the streets of Oakland on Wednesday as they geared up with labor unions to picket banks, take over foreclosed homes and vacant buildings and disrupt operations at the nation’s fifth-busiest port.

The protests marked an escalation from previous demonstrations as they went beyond boisterous rallies at park encampments and took aim at a major hub of commerce — the Port of Oakland. Organizers say they want to halt “the flow of capital” at the port.

Photos: It’s a Zombie Apocalypse! Why ARE zombies so popular? 19

Why are zombies such the rage?  Because zombie apocalypse is a perfect example of total escapism – no government, authority, regulations, basic societial responsibilities and expectations, all disappearing into thin air over a short period of time. If you are one of the few that survived, survival, which is your most basic and ingrained instinct, becomes your sole object. Survival. Simple, yet a powerful instinct, a total escape from the ubiquitously mundane lifestyle of modern society. Dangerous predators(zombies), guns, violence, all the things that stimulate your periphery nervous system on the most primitive levels, suddenly become part of the reality. It’s a sublte fantasy world marked with blood and adrenaline.

In a world ruled by the dead… we are forced to start living.

Various photos of zombie costumes and make-up!  Have a Happy Halloween, and be careful of things that go “bump” in the night…..

Occupy Albuquerque Oct 15 2011 | If you build it… they will come! #occupyburque Reply

The protest held in Albuquerque on Saturday, October 15th was truly a phenomenal site!  The first protest on October 1st peaked with probably just under 300 people in attendance.  Fewer attended on October 8th.  We took to the downtown streets on October 12th and protested in front of all the banks, and we had around 30 individuals that day.  We may have been small, but our voices were loud.  When October 15th arrived, I was unsure how many would attend.  When I walked to the protest site, which was in front of Wells-Fargo in Nob Hill on Central Ave, my jaw literally hit the ground and my heart soared sky-high!  People were packed 3 to 4 deep for many blocks long, all with signs in hand and hopes high.  Estimated attendance between 700 to 800.  Every age (the Raging Grannies were present!), race, religion, and socioeconomic background appeared.  All in complete support of the Occupy Wall Street and Global Change movement!  This truly was the Protest Heard Around the World!

Occupy Albuquerque | Downtown March Oct 22, 2011 Reply

Once again, Occupy Albuquerque marches on in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.  On Saturday, the group started from the home base of Coyote Camp and marched to downtown Albuquerque.  Many banks were visited, but the final spot of protest before the return home was at the intersection of 4th and Central – the heart of downtown Albuquerque.

Here are a few photos.  For the full gallery, please click here to go to Motley Photos. More…

Photos from the 1991 Oakland-Berkeley Firestorm Reply

October 20th, 2011, will be the twenty year anniversary of the Oakland-Berkeley Firestorm of 1991.  The fire has also been called the Oakland hills firestorm, the East Bay Hills Fire, and the Tunnel Fire (because of its origin above the west portal of the Caldecott Tunnel) in Oakland. The fire ultimately killed 25 people and injured 150 others. The 1,520 acres (6.2 km²) destroyed included 3,354 single-family dwellings and 437 apartment and condominium units. The economic loss has been estimated at $1.5 billion. More…

Occupy Albuquerque Oct 8 2011 Day #8 | Protester arrested | Video Photos 1

Occupy Albuquerque set up camp, now called Coyote Camp, last Saturday, Oct. 1st, on the UNM (University of New Mexico) campus on the corner of University and Central Ave.  During the past week, the campers have received permission to remain on campus, but needed to relocate to another area due to the elderly trees in the vicinity of the original camp.  The move was peaceful, and the new location actually adds more visibility for the protesters.  Today, Occupy Albuquerque combined efforts with an Anti-War protest as they marched down Central Ave.  The local Albuquerque Police Department maintained decorum and actually assisted with traffic control as the march led on.  Once the march returned to Coyote Camp, the police arrived and arrested an individual.   However, once back at Coyote Camp, the police arrived and arrested an individual.   I was not present during the alleged incident and cannot confirm the validity of the news report within this post.

This is a peaceful protest and the actions of one individual, if true as stated in the news footage below, should not reflect upon the group as a whole.

If the alleged incident is NOT true, then this only adds more support to the reasons the 99% are protesting.
