Activists Take To The Trees To Stop Keystone XL Pipeline in East Texas 10

Three pickup trucks of TransCanada’s Keystone XL construction workers are arriving on Highway 2088 outside Winnsboro, Texas. Their purpose? Tear down the trees, clear the brush, flatten the land, and erect a portion of the southern section of the Keystone XL pipeline. This pipeline, if completed, will bring the tar sands from Canada down to the Houston area where it will be refined…. then sold to China and other countries. The Canadian Tar Sands is considered to be the most destructive project on Earth.

All the while the corporate leaders and their lobbyists are continually telling the people that the Keystone XL will provide millions of jobs and stock the United States with oil for many decades to come.

Chick-fil-A has Donated Millions of Dollars to Anti-Gay and Hate Groups 31

ABQ NM protest

Recently, the current COO of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, has declared publicly that he is opposed to same-sex marriages. On July 16, Cathy appeared in The Baptist Press:

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit,” Cathy said. “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

Chick-Fil-A New Homophobic Sandwich Debuts Today 18

Today is a day which will go down in history for Chick-fil-A… they have released their newest sandwich called the “Queer-Hatin’ Cordon Bleu.”

According to The Onion:

In a press conference to reporters, company representatives said the homophobic new sandwich will include the national fast food chain’s trademark fried chicken filet wrapped in a piece of specially-smoked No Homo ham that would be topped with a slice of Swiss cheese and lathered in a creamy new Thousand Island-based Fag Punching sauce.

War on Women March, Santa Fe NM April 28 | Photos 21

I would like to share some photos – which are further down this page below the video – that I took in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for the national march protesting the Republican Party’s “War on Women.” Not surprisingly, the GOP is now denying that they are waging any war on the women in our country. How can they not see what is as plain on the nose on our faces? Because extreme right wing conservatives believe firmly in a hierarchical system. Men are at the top. Excuse me… white men. Followed by white women… about 5 steps behind, pregnant and getting ready to cook their dinner. Any one else is of little to no importance to them – unless they serve a purpose as Allen West does in Florida.

No Mother’s Day 2012 | Maternal Fatalities Rise in the US 10

Every 90 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman dies from a pregnancy-related complication. This isn’t just a “third world” problem. The United States currently ranks 50th in the world for maternal health. We used to rank 41st. Women here experience higher rates of maternal death than those in nearly all European countries, Canada and several countries in the Middle East and Asia. In addition, the U.S. numbers may be depressed as there are no reporting requirements for maternal deaths.

The War on Women Political Humor 29

With all the recent news of the insanity spreading like a viral disease throughout our country, the War on Women has begun. I have always seen and believed that there are some rather ignorant people in both of our parties, but this year is much different. The Republican Party wins hands down. Bills are erupting all over the country, states ticking off one-by-one with their own bill which in some manner violates women’s rights.

Oklahoma women yesterday marched on the state capitol to protest a Senate bill that would grant a fetus full 'personhood' at the moment of conception.

The bill sailed through the state Senate a few weeks ago and reportedly is expected to pass in the Republican-controlled House as well. Governor Mary Fallin (R), who has signed other anti-abortion bills, is expected to sign the "Personhood Act" if it gets to her desk.

I really wanted to share this photo as this sign is great! So perfect and expresses the sentiment of so many women over the Personhood bill. Check out the post for more details.

The U.S. Supreme Koch 15

On the eve of the second anniversary of the much-despised Citizens United ruling, activists with the Other 98% and Backbone Campaign put a giant dollar sign light projection, along with a few other messages, on the Supreme Court building to protest the ruling that undermined government of, by and for the actual people by defining corporations as people and money as speech.      More…

One Year Ago #jan25 The Hashtag Tweeted Around the World 2

It was one year ago I was one of many who sat glued to the internet watching the birth of a revolution which grew worldwide. Yes, it was first in Tunisia where the people gathered in in the streets in protest. The events began in December 2010 and led to the ousting of longtime President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011 eventually leading to a thorough democratization of the country and to free and democratic elections.

However, it was on January 25, 2011, that the world woke up when the people of Egypt gathered together and formed a revolution against Mubarak. Protesters flooded Cairo’s main squares and Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Flickr flooded the internet with updates. Supporters of Egypt’s protesters around the world spread information in updates so rapid and numerous that the collective coverage could probably be classified as viral.

Anonymous’s Next Target: Facebook January 28 7

“An online war has begun between Anonymous, the people, and the government of the United States,” the narrator begins. The reason: SOPA, PIPA and other perceived threats to Internet rights.

In order to bring down Facebook, the video asks for everyone who understands and supports Anonymous’ position to participate in this online protest. This is a protest that began over the last week, says the narrator, with attacks on the CBS.com, Warner Brothers, and FBI sites.

Occupy Geriatrics | Seniors Shut Down Local BofA 1

According to SF Weekly, on January 5, 2012, a small group of senior citizens between the ages of 69 and 82 successfully shut down a Bank of America in Bernal Heights on Thursday with nothing more than walkers and oxygen tanks. That’s right: No shouting, chanting, tear gas, or window-smashing.

The group, which dubbed itself “Wild Old Women” set up camp right outside the Bank of America (BofA), holding signs in what they were calling “a run on the bank.” More…

UC Davis Photos and Video of pepper spray incident. Are we in a police state? #ows 4

Our country has evolved right before our very eyes into a police state.  Yes, a police state.  Many cringe at these words and deny their existence within our own country, but look at what has been going on.  Our First Amendment’s right to free speech and peaceful assembly is being blatantly denied.  City by city, camp by camp, the police are coming in armed for warfare and using violent tactics and pepper spray on completely unarmed individuals.  Where is our President during all this?  Until recently, I have fully supported Obama, but now, I have some serious doubts as to whether he is acting in behalf of the people of our country – or if he is acting in behalf of those people “behind the curtain” holding all the money and corruption – in other words, the Oligarchs.  Does our president need to be reminded of these very words he spoke by on January 28th in regards to the Egyptian Revolution? Photos / Video of Occupy Wall Street “Day of Action” Nov 17th #ows 1

Today, Thursday November 17th, marked the two-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement.  Just 60 days ago, a few hundred arrived at Wall Street to take up camp and occupy the area in protest to the greed and corruption within our government and corporations.  The main stream media refused to cover the inaugural event instead covering such events such as the Tea Party.  Many scoffed and did not believe this would take hold.  Now the media cannot get enough coverage especially since this only brings in more profit.  Look at how this has grown throughout the country with an Occupy movement in nearly every major city, and hundreds of smaller “home towns.”  Not only has this spread throughout the United States, but has taken hold world-wide. Occupy Albuquerque permit renewel DENIED 11

Occupy Albuquerque has been functioning a base camp, called Coyote Camp, on the UNM campus since October 1st.  Initially the camp set up on the corner of University and Central, but UNM granted a permit to move Coyote Camp to it’s current location at Yale Park on the corner of Central and Yale.

Today, however, Occupy Albuquerque, aka (un)Occupy Albuquerque, has been informed that UNM will deny their right of free speech and not renew the permit, which allowed local protesters to function from 7 AM to 10 PM.

Occupy Albuquerque Oct 15 2011 | If you build it… they will come! #occupyburque Reply

The protest held in Albuquerque on Saturday, October 15th was truly a phenomenal site!  The first protest on October 1st peaked with probably just under 300 people in attendance.  Fewer attended on October 8th.  We took to the downtown streets on October 12th and protested in front of all the banks, and we had around 30 individuals that day.  We may have been small, but our voices were loud.  When October 15th arrived, I was unsure how many would attend.  When I walked to the protest site, which was in front of Wells-Fargo in Nob Hill on Central Ave, my jaw literally hit the ground and my heart soared sky-high!  People were packed 3 to 4 deep for many blocks long, all with signs in hand and hopes high.  Estimated attendance between 700 to 800.  Every age (the Raging Grannies were present!), race, religion, and socioeconomic background appeared.  All in complete support of the Occupy Wall Street and Global Change movement!  This truly was the Protest Heard Around the World!

Occupy Albuquerque | Downtown March Oct 22, 2011 Reply

Once again, Occupy Albuquerque marches on in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.  On Saturday, the group started from the home base of Coyote Camp and marched to downtown Albuquerque.  Many banks were visited, but the final spot of protest before the return home was at the intersection of 4th and Central – the heart of downtown Albuquerque.
