101 Facts from A(llyson) to Z(oe) About the 100 Women Now in Congress 11
When the 113th Congress was sworn in last week, a new record was set. There were a total of 100 women between the House and Senate. The House of Representative brought forth 80 to join the 20 from the Senate. A record. Slowly the good ol’ white boy network is being whittled away – as it should be. More…
Lest We Forget, the States that are Going Backwards with Women’s Rights 12
It is time for a reminder on which states and what they’re doing against women and their reproductive rights. The War Against Women erupted practically overnight earlier this year and millions of people, both women and men, stood their ground against the far right wing’s bills and laws which heavily undermine a woman’s right to making her own decisions about her reproduction and abortion. The War has quieted as far as the front-running news, but it most certainly has not been forgotten by women all over the country. So, with this year’s presidential election only three months away, it is time to remind everyone what is going on with the War Against Women and the war’s relationship to Romney.
Michigan HB No. 5713: “The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” 6
Previously, I had posted an article called, “Michigan’s Abortion HB 5711 is NOT as bad as Jezebel and HuffPo make it out to be” which centered on the fact that the information provided in an internet posting by both Jezebel and Huffington Post provided incorrect information. That is still true. However, the bill that both of these sites should also referenced is the Michigan HB No. 5713, which is also known as the “pain-capable unborn child protection act.” This bill makes it illegal to abort a child once it reaches 20 weeks in utero based upon the premise that the fetus may then feel pain. Here is the specific wording:
(4) A person shall not perform or attempt to perform an abortion upon a pregnant individual if it is determined that the unborn child has a probable postfertilization age of 20 or more weeks, unless in the reasonable clinical judgment of a physician the abortion is necessary to avert the pregnant individual’s death.
(5) A person who violates this section is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 15 years or a fine of not more than $7,500.00, or both.
Michigan’s Abortion HB 5711 is NOT as bad as Jezebel and HuffPo make it out to be 32
I am irritated, disgusted and very disappointed in two website articles posted a day apart with pretty much the same information and opinions. Huffington Posts, “Michigan Anti-Abortion Bill, ‘Most Extreme’ In The Country, Barrels Through State House” and Jezebel’s, “Michigan’s Extreme Anti-Abortion Bill Leads the Nation in Batshittery.” Now, it only takes one glance on my site here to see that I am very pro-women’s rights and pro-choice. But just as I despise FAUX FOX News distorting facts so severely that they become outright lies, I do not condone this same behavior from the liberal side of the political field. From what I have read in these articles versus what I read in the bill itself, HuffPo and Jezebel did the exact same thing that FAUX FOX News does.
The “Imaginary” War on Women 26
Today was to be my day of catching up on some doggie graphic work and some new websites, but I keep coming across more and more websites and publishings about the war the GOP has declared on Women’s Rights. One minute I want to scream to everyone the unrighteousness behind these bills. Then the next minute, I want to pack up myself and my dogs and move into a cave in the Northern Territories – with high speed internet, of course. I’m sure I can find a cave, but since I seriously doubt I’ll find one with high speed internet, or even in an area where a wireless card will work, then I must do the former of the two options. More…
War on Women March, Santa Fe NM April 28 | Photos 21
I would like to share some photos – which are further down this page below the video – that I took in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for the national march protesting the Republican Party’s “War on Women.” Not surprisingly, the GOP is now denying that they are waging any war on the women in our country. How can they not see what is as plain on the nose on our faces? Because extreme right wing conservatives believe firmly in a hierarchical system. Men are at the top. Excuse me… white men. Followed by white women… about 5 steps behind, pregnant and getting ready to cook their dinner. Any one else is of little to no importance to them – unless they serve a purpose as Allen West does in Florida.
No Mother’s Day 2012 | Maternal Fatalities Rise in the US 10
Every 90 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman dies from a pregnancy-related complication. This isn’t just a “third world” problem. The United States currently ranks 50th in the world for maternal health. We used to rank 41st. Women here experience higher rates of maternal death than those in nearly all European countries, Canada and several countries in the Middle East and Asia. In addition, the U.S. numbers may be depressed as there are no reporting requirements for maternal deaths.
Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann Co-Sponsor Yet Another Anti-Abortion Bill 8
I tell you, the Republicans are like bloody Chinese Water Torture. You know the deal… where the victim is completely immobilized, especially their head, and a drip is started dead-center in the middle of their forehead. Sure, a few dozen is no big deal. Might even feel good. But after several thousand, it makes the victim border on insanity.

No Access Sex Strike for Women’s Rights 21
On April 28th, just a few short weeks away, is the march for the War on Women. In every state capitol throughout the country, and perhaps other major cities, women and men alike will unite in a march to protest all these insane bills. Bill which are appearing like cockroaches that allow the state’s governments to gain control over women’s uterus’. Arizona is now taking the cake with the most recent passing of their completely absurd AZ HB 2036 that redefines a pregnancy as beginning at two weeks before conception. So….
Hell Hath No Fury Like the “War on Women” so Vote ‘em Out! 36
You have limited my access to crucial women’s health services.
You have vilified and punished me and my children because I am a single mother.
You have tried to redefine “rape” in an effort to reduce my access to abortion services.
You have publicly ridiculed me, and called me names to get me to sit down and shut up.
Texas Observer’s April 2012 “Politics Becomes Personal” Cover Raises Eyebrows 8
Does this picture below make you uncomfortable? It should, and I hope it does because sometimes, the truth is not pretty. Progressive media outlet The Texas Observer is raising eyebrows all over the internet with its new cover, a graphic for the story “Politics Become Personal: Texas Lawmakers Have Made Themselves Part of Women’s Most Difficult Decisions.”
The story comes on the heels of the major changes Texas lawmakers have passed regarding women’s healthcare, and follows Carolyn Jones’ first person account of getting an abortion after the passage of HB-15, published by the Observer on March 15th.
One Victory for the War Against Women 9
On Wednesday, the War Against Women was victorious in Oklahoma, which rather surprised me since Oklahoma is a bit more conservative than most other states. An Oklahoma district judge struck down a state law requiring women to have an ultrasound image placed in front of them and to listen to a detailed description of the fetus before having an abortion. District Judge Bryan Dixon ruled that the 2010 measure is an unconstitutional special law because it only affects patients, physicians, and sonographers who deal with abortions without addressing other medical care.
FOX News Killed My Mother 12
Sounds like political satire, right? Not in this case. I know many people are anti-Facebook for several reasons. But I have found Facebook to be beneficial, especially with keeping up in the news. I am careful as to who I friend and not afraid to “unfriend” someone if their main purpose is to be an asshole. But I love it as a one-stop source for my news. I “Like” many legitimate pages, and last night, this first image below, created by Tracy Knauss, came across Keith Olbermann’s page.
War on Women Posters | Go F*** Yourself 17
These beautifully designed pieces or art posters are definitely not for the faint of heart, nor the passive person. They are designed to make a statement to the politicians who feel it is their right to violate a woman’s body with ignorant insane laws. So, just a word of warning, if you are easily offended by language, then these are not for you. Designed by Favianna Rodriguez.
The War on Women Political Humor 29
With all the recent news of the insanity spreading like a viral disease throughout our country, the War on Women has begun. I have always seen and believed that there are some rather ignorant people in both of our parties, but this year is much different. The Republican Party wins hands down. Bills are erupting all over the country, states ticking off one-by-one with their own bill which in some manner violates women’s rights.

I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar! 81
That is IT! I have HAD it up to my pre-menopausal eyeballs! Ladies, and men who support women and see us as your equals, it is time to get MAD! Or get even MADDER! Time to be vocal, time to stand up for our rights!!! I am going to rant, and I mean rant hard! This may end up being a babble-fest, but damn it, I’ve got to get this off my chest. Or should I say breasts, as I am a woman and freakin’ damn proud of it!
Some Oldies but Goodies | A Rant 17
Yesterday, a good friend of mine, “B”, basically “had it” after she read an article about the contraception debate, which featured a photo of the panel… all men, in which three are priests. So, “B” ranted on Facebook. I thought it was a great rant, so wanted to share it with everyone. Here we go!

Women in China, and a school for women on marrying a billionaire Reply
I just finished watching this video uploaded by Al Jazeera regarding a school in China for women which teaches girls the skills to win the heart of wealthy men. This report is not what really bothered me, it was the majority of the responses given. Here are a few examples (and I’m ignoring the trolls):
I hate gold diggers >.<
I like how china is trying to become like the next america
They just simply sell themselves for Money and that will not have a good end i am sure.
Just more evidence that women want money, not happiness or love.. just throw money at them and they’re all yours…… until it runs out.
A fool and his (or her) money will soon part. That $46/hr could be better spent than on a scam like this.
this is sick….
iam sure everyones parents would want their daughters to marry rich people, its completely different dude, the chinese girls are gold diggers!
Everyone is quick to be a critic, but not move to make any changes. Plus the ignorance in these replies is simply overwhelming. Personally, this school is a very smart decision upon the founders only because of the circumstances the women in China face from the day they were born until the day they die.
It is a survival move….
Because of a Confucian tradition, boys have always been valued more than girls. Males carry on the family name, are considered better workers, receive higher wages and are viewed as the parents’ insurance during old age. When parents are restricted to having only one child, they much prefer that it be a baby boy.
The People’s Republic of China is a totalitarian state. The Communist Party is the only political entity allowed to exist within its borders. Because of this fact, much of the information on women’s rights can be classified as secret. Many statistics on kidnapping and the trafficking in girls and women, induced abortions, sterilizations, infanticides and other human rights violations are unknown.
Statistics from China are sketchy at best. They purposely remain cut off from the western world in order to minimize our influence over their people. And those statistics that do make it out of China are most likely skewed to reflect more reform for women than what is actually occurring. I have found various statistics throughout the past 15 years, and they all follow the same trend.
Illiteracy is predominant amongst women. As much as 70% of the illiterate are women during recent years.
Only slightly more than a third of college students are women. Even less go on to graduate school.
On average, women were paid only 70-80 percent of what men received for the same work. Most women employed in industry work in lower skilled and lower paid jobs.
With the one-child-per-couple law, there are still gender-based abortions occurring. Factually, men have a better life in China than women. It is also part of Chinese tradition for the children to care for their parents during their elderly years. Parents will have more security knowing a son is more apt to care for them than a daughter. This may be harsh, but the truth does not change the facts of survival.
So what is a woman to do in China? They are fighting for more equal rights, but they have thousands of years of traditional to battle against. Progress will be slow. In the meantime, each person, each family must survive. With all these cards stacked up against women, then seeking a wealthy husband is a reasonable solution. Parents will gladly pay for their daughters “education” if this helps ensure they will be taken care of by their wealthy son-in-law.
Cannot say that I blame them.
Womens Rights in China may be on the rise, but they still have a long way to go.
And for those fools who posted such ignorant comments… You are (obviously) on the internet. Crawl out from under your rock and start googling and learning. The world is at your fingertips.
I have my own saying, “Ignorance is not bliss when someone elses ignorance interferes with my bliss.”
