“An online war has begun between Anonymous, the people, and the government of the United States,” the narrator begins. The reason: SOPA, PIPA and other perceived threats to Internet rights.
In order to bring down Facebook, the video asks for everyone who understands and supports Anonymous’ position to participate in this online protest. This is a protest that began over the last week, says the narrator, with attacks on the CBS.com, Warner Brothers, and FBI sites.
The narrator suggests that anyone who supports the cause download a program in order to participate in a Facebook attack. Since Facebook has 60,000 servers (holy cow!) then Anonymous alone cannot bring it down but they require thousands more to interact at the same moment in time.

The time chosen is 12 a.m., January 28 – although he does not state what time zone, so assuming Eastern. A rather important item to include…. Anyway…
According to CNet, the YouTube account associated with this threat appears to have some Anonymous connection. There is more than one of the group’s videos posted to it. That doesn’t mean diddly-squat. I have several YouTube friends that mirror Anonymous vid’s all the time. Some fan of the Revolution may have created this video themselves, not really understanding the full infrastructure of Anonymous, and uploaded it in hopes of, well… something.
What I do not understand is why Facebook? After all, Facebook was the birthplace of the Arab Spring as well as threatened by laws such as SOPA/PIPA. This is another reason I’m not convinced that Anonymous is really arranging this. Although Facebook has many reasons to be disliked, again… they were one of the main channels used for the protests around the world for the past year.
In all honesty, I am not sure I am buying this one. The narrator states you cannot be caught… but if you go to download the software, is not your IP logged in (unless you know how to jump IP’s)? The Cannon’s are on SourceForge and RapidShare, but they also have another link titled “To browse anonymously go to…” I am not a paranoid person in the least, but this smells of Big Brother to me. I have no plans to participate, but I will be watching Facebook at the scheduled time.
And I have to say, I like the intro music in the video… dramatic.
