Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) is one of the most destructive Senators on Capitol Hill. He opposes child labor laws, food stamps, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, programs that help the poor, FDA, EPA, and just about the entire federal government. He thinks everything is unconstitutional, despite what the Supreme Court has ruled.

Last Friday, Lee threatened to block all of President Obama’s nominees if he doesn’t remove Richard Cordray from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Republicans think the President violated the Constitution by appointing Cordray during the recess.

Here is what Lee had to say:

“Given this President’s blatant and egregious disregard both for proper constitutional procedures and the Senate’s unquestioned role in such appointments, I find myself duty-bound to resist the consideration and approval of additional nominations until the President takes steps to remedy the situation. Regardless of the precise course I choose to pursue, the President certainly will not continue to enjoy my nearly complete cooperation, unless and until he rescinds his unconstitutional recess appointments.”

.
In his State of the Union Address last week, Obama made it very clear that he, as well as the citizens of the United States are tired of the cat fight occurring in Washington as each party continues to obstruct the other party from moving forward. This is occurring from both directions, although most of the obstructions do occur from the Republican side.

So, President Obama struck back at Chris Lee during his weekly address:

”Just two days ago, a senator from Utah promised to obstruct every single American I appoint to a judgeship or public service position – unless I fire the consumer watchdog I put in place to protect the American people from financial schemes or malpractice.

For the most part, it’s not that this senator thinks these nominees are unqualified. In fact, all of the judicial nominees being blocked have bipartisan support. And almost 90 percent have unanimous support from the Judiciary Committee.

Instead, one of his aides told reporters that the senator plans to, and I’m quoting here, “Delay and slow the process in order to get the President’s attention.”

.
This is one thing I have always loved about Obama – he tells it like it is. Yet, he does it in a manner which is so smooth, rather than the mud-slinging we are seeing between Newt and Mitt. Additionally, the words chosen are so well put that whoever they are being directed towards must feel like a complete fool – that is if they have any integrity, which apparently Lee does not. So I am sure Lee is throwing a mountain of tantrums after hearing this.

Washington, it is time to grow up and start working together for the betterment of your country.

And stop your insider trading!

  1. Yeah, Mike Lee is a dick. I can’t stand him. Unfortunately, there are a few Utah voters who think he is still too liberal and ineffectual because Obama is still capable of getting a few things done and hasn’t been impeached (I hear about it in church hallways). He is the moron he is because Utah tea-partiers want him to be that way if not more of an obstructionist.

      1. I TOLD you that Utah has the craziest congressional delegation!! 🙂 Aaron is absolutely right! Mike Lee replaced Bob Bennett, a much more moderate Republican, on the tea party wave which is alive and well here in the great state of Utah. Mike Lee claims that the U.S. Constitution is divinely inspired — granted, many do — but, one of the first things he did in his first year was claim that we need a constitutional amendment defining marriage. Apparently it’s only divine and perfect until he comes up with a way to change it. There’s not a Republican in Utah that will get my vote, AND (you’ve got me going now) these people are nothing compared to the state legislature! New Mexico would be a dream!

        1. You weren’t kidding about your Utah politicians. Have they been drinking too much out of The Great Salt Lake I wonder…. For the time being, I would have to agree that possible NM is only slightly better – but not much with Martinez moving in. She is very pro-corporate and pro-Koch Bro’s.

  2. Making the appointment was one of Obama’s better moves, and it’s a good sign that he’s not backing down.
