Yes, seriously. This bigoted, hateful man was inducted into the Missouri Hall of Fame last week. I’m utterly stupefied with this move. People are chosen for Hall of Fame’s for the good they have done to society. For positive words and acts. Deeds which portray kindness and caring for their fellow man. Do any of these descriptions fit Limbaugh’s persona? Ummm… no.
State House Speaker Steven Tilley (R-Perryville) chose Limbaugh, baseball legend Buck O’Neil and former slave Dred Scott for the distinction this year. The statues are commissioned using private funds.
Tilley was roundly criticized for choosing Limbaugh when word leaked out in March, since it was shortly after the right-wing pundit had called Georgetown University Law student Sandra Fluke a “slut.”
As a result, the ceremony’s time and date were kept secret until right before the ceremony was set to begin, presumably to avoid protests. KPLR in St. Louis, Mo. noted that the press release about Monday’s induction went out just 26 minutes beforehand. The event was not open to the general public and Missouri Highway Patrol officers guarded the entries to the House chamber.

Seriously, think about this… if you have to keep the newly chosen “Hall of Famer” secret up until the ceremony, then that person should not be in the Hall of Fame. Period. Dot.
Instead of being glorified in bronze, this bigot should be on the Enemies of Earth’s “Most Wanted” list for spreading misinformation about global warming and science in general and for his constant stream of vitriol in his War on Women. Known as the Matriarch of Women Haters, Limbaugh coined the term feminazi. Virtually all sensible, non-racist advertisers have now boycotted his radio program. But the state of Missouri is still living in the 1860’s time zone and hasn’t yet learned of this pariah’s fall from grace. Needless to say it’s the Republicans in MO’s state legislature who are totally responsible for this accolade to Mr. Asshole.
Seriously, there has to be some “back scratching” with this move, and I am flabbergasted as to what it would be. Limbaugh can offer nothing other than spewing forth lies and slandering people’s good name. Perhaps that is what Tilley wants. Rush Limbaugh is from Cape Girardeau – but there are many other more respectable, notable people from Missouri which may be chosen.
Bad move, Tilley. Bad move. Your true colors are definitely showing on this one, and I hope every woman in the state votes against you in your next election.

The AP reports that there’s a chance Limbaugh’s bust may not actually be placed in the Missouristatehouse:
Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon’s administration released a memo Monday indicating that a state board — not the House speaker — has the authority to determine what items are displayed in the third floor Capitol Rotunda where the busts are located. House Minority Leader Mike Talboy, D-Kansas City, also asserted that Tilley has no legal authority to order Limbaugh’s bust to be placed in the Capitol Rotunda.
“The secrecy and exclusion of the public demonstrates that even Republicans are embarrassed at honoring someone who recently called a female college student with whom he disagreed a ‘slut’ and a ‘prostitute,’” Talboy said.
