Anakin is a miracle cat who was born without any back legs or pelvis, and has recently been adopted by Carrie Hawks who happens to be a Fantasy Cat Artist. On Anakin’s Facebook page, Carrie describes how a kitten without back legs started coming over to eat with the other feral cats at her dad’s place of work. Her first few attempts at trying to catch the young kitten didn’t work, but finally on May 31st, Carrie succeeded. She brought the kitten home and as soon as her veterinarian’s office opened the next morning, she took the kitty in. The vet said she has never seen anything like him before and he is utterly amazing! It is also very odd that his mother took care of him even with his handicap as mother’s of most species usually ignore an ill or deformed infant purely as a survival instinct.
The exam showed that Anakin is approximately 6 to 8 weeks old and actually in excellent health. Two x-rays show he was born with no pelvis or back legs. They allowed him walk around the room for a minute to observe and study how he moves. He positions his front legs at an angle towards the middle of his body and balances his back end in the air with the use of his tail touching the ground if he needs it. It is a method that seems to work very well for him. Thankfully, the x-ray also showed that his organs were not malformed. The feline leukemia test came back negative so Carrie got him vaccinated, de-wormed and some flea med’s and took him to his new home.

For those people who have not had the opportunity to either own or interact with a pet which was born with a “deformity” (I prefer to describe it as something different from the norm), please do not feel sorry for Anakin. I am the proud and loving owner of a dog who was born completely deaf and blind in one eye due to backyard breeders who do not have a clue as to what they’re doing. And my dog has absolutely NO IDEA that he is any different. He’s happy, plays, and has actually been easier to train than any fully functioning dog I have owned.
So, watch Anakin play. And, please, don’t tell him he’s missing his two back legs and pelvis… he doesn’t know that. And doesn’t care. I’m sure he is so happy to be in a safe and loving house now.
