The Young Republican Labor Committee Salutes Labor (Unions)

I found this Young Republicans ad floating around the internet. This ad was circulated for Labor Day in 1956 and clearly supports and encourages labor unions.

Talk about a different Republican Party these days….

FYI… I have not been able to find an archived copy in the DC Archive Library, but that does not mean it isn’t there, or in another archive. These archives can be somewhat difficult to find something specific, especially without have any further details. I am going to continue to search for it as I am very confident this is an actual image of the 1956 copy. If anyone finds an archived copy, please let me know. This is what the Republican Party was like back then.

And now, in Michigan recently, the GOP is attempting to wipe out collective bargaining.

    Yep, big change! From waging war on poverty to war on poor people. Actually, they never did wage war on poverty, did they?

      Honestly, I’m not positive. Wasn’t alive back then (b. 1964), and my political history is NOT very strong. I do hear from many that the party most definitely has changed, which is apparent in this ad, but not sure about the war of poverty specifically.

    Just saw Lincoln today, and I was very amused by the politicians stressing their party affiliations, and how much the party themes have changed over the years.

      It’s so strange to think of Lincoln as a republican. Did you like the movie?

        I thought it was really good. The focus was on passage of the 13th amendment (abolishing slavery). There were some details I took issue with, but small things.

        It was a great cast, and the whole production was really well done.
