Throughout Obama’s presidency, he has maintained more decorum than most presidents who have walked before him. In many ways, his tactics remind me very much of my own grandparents, and that is to let those making mistakes come to realize their errors and make the appropriate corrections. No one likes to have any fingers pointed at them which often puts them on the defense.
Although very honorable, the top dog does need to set this aside when necessary and call “a spade a spade.” In Obama’s interview on NBC’s Meet the Press today, he has finally done what I wish he had been doing since 2011 and that is to specifically name the two clowns leading our Congress over the Fiscal Cliff – as well as becoming the most unproductive session since the 1940s with only 196 bills into law so far. Yes. The most unproductive since Truman was in office and infamously dubbed the 80th Congress (1947-1948) as the “Do-Nothing Congress” who passed a grand total of 333 bills during that two-year span.
I’m sure Boehner and McConnell have both wanted to go down in Congressional history, but I’m sure they didn’t expect this. After all, McConnell had visions of being the one to make sure Obama was a one-term president. We can all see how well that went. The 112th Congress is also carrying a devastating low approval rating of just 18%. Ouch.
With the bills that have passed, at least 40 of them are still awaiting Obama’s signature, concerns the renaming of post offices or other public buildings. Another six dealt with commemorative coins. Now, someone please go explain to the children of our middle class parents why this is more important that the tax breaks Obama wants to provide to 98% of the people and 97% of the business.
We must not forget, either, that the House Republicans have also held votes to repeal Obamacare more than 30 times since gaining control of the chamber in 2011, despite the fact that such a measure has no chance of passing the Democratically controlled Senate or being signed by Obama.
I have watched this many times, grinning bigger each time. At 4:38 is when President Obama specifically says:
So far, Congress has not been able to get this stuff done. Not because Democrats and Congress don’t want to go ahead and cooperate, but because I think it’s been very hard for Speaker Boehner and Republican Leader McConnell to accept the fact that taxes on the wealthiest Americans should go up a little bit as part of an overall deficit reduction package.
(Hat tip: Thanks, ObamaCrat, for being as reliable as the sunrise and sunset by posting the newest interview with our POTUS.)
President Barack Obama – Exclusive interview on NBC’s Meet the Press. Dec 30 2012
The entire video of 28 minutes is definitely worth watching.
