Once again, it is Friday the 13th. Here are some interesting stories all related to this infamous date.

Superstition: 13 people unlucky to have for dinner
It should be obvious, but seating 13 people at a dinner table is never a good idea. Not only will the first person be done eating by the time the last person is served, but it’s extremely unlucky. The origins of this superstition are not hard to fathom, coming from the book of John in the Bible, in which Jesus Christ was betrayed by Judas — the 13th guest at his table. The unluckiness of 13 goes beyond just a table; many believe that if 13 people meet in a room, one of them will die within the year. (Source)
Friday the 13th: Calendar facts about this date
This year, the 13th fell on a Friday in February, and will occur again this month.
We won’t have consecutive months with a Friday the 13th for another 11 years. And what’s worse, we’re getting another one in November.
“This whole year is kind of weird for some people, but it’s cool to me,” said Thomas Fernsler, a math specialist at the University of Delaware who earned the moniker “Dr. 13” for his vast knowledge of the number.
Fernsler’s research, which shies away from the bad luck, black cats, and horror flicks associated with Friday the 13th, focuses on the mathematical angles and patterns. He started the work in 1987, when he picked up a calendar and happened to notice the day would happen three times that year.
“I looked at a calendar and said, ‘gee, that seems like a lot.’ And it actually is,” he said.
From there, he tracked the date — and the number — almost constantly.
“Now I get to talk about connections between history, politics, and famous and infamous people and events” and the number 13, he said.
Fernsler said every year has at least one Friday the 13th.
If they fall in May, June, or August, in a given year, that’s the only time it will happen that year.
If Friday the 13th happens in September, another will happen in December, he said, because those months have the same date patterns.
February and March always have the same date patterns in a non-leap year, so the 13th will fall on back-to-back Fridays, with November trailing behind. The last time this happened was in 2009, but we’ll have a longer reprieve before the next occurrence.
“Next time we are going to see this is in 2026,” Fernsler said. (Source)
The 13-year-old kid who was struck by lightning at 13:13 on a Friday the 13th
In August 2010, a British teenager proved Friday the 13th can be specially unlucky. At exactly 13:13 on the much-feared date, the teenager was among a crowd of 170,000 people watching an aeronautical display at the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, in the east of England, when all of the sudden, he was struck by lightning. “It’s all a bit strange that (…) it happened at 13:13 on Friday 13” said the paramedic. Luckily, he only suffered minor burns and is expected to make a full recovery.
The teen was… 13 years old. (Source)

The crash victim who crashed on Friday the 13th, woke up 19 years later – on Friday the 13th
A man awoke from a coma after 19 years, turned to his mother who was at his bedside, and said: ‘Mum.’ Terry Wallis, 39, then uttered the word ‘Pepsi’, followed by ‘milk’.
Mr Wallis was 19 and had just celebrated the birth of his daughter when, on Friday 13 July 1984, the truck he was travelling in slewed through a road barrier and plunged 25ft into a creek. It was 24 hours before the truck was found. He was left paralyzed from the neck down and in a coma. Despite doctors giving him little chance of regaining consciousness, Mr Wallis’s parents and his wife Sandi put him in a rehabilitation centre. Every other weekend they drove him to their farm 26 miles away, where they talked to him in the belief that familiar surroundings might restore him back to consciousness. Four weeks ago, Mrs Wallis went to the centre for what she believed would be a typical visit. It was then when her son opened his eyes and spoke. Mr Wallis, from Arkansas, is talking freely and getting to know his daughter, Amber, who is now 19.
The brain damage he suffered in the accident has left him with poor short term memory, and, perhaps inevitably, he remains stuck in 1984. When asked by his mother who the president was, he replied: ‘Ronald Reagan.’
A peculiar fact: he wrecked on Friday the 13th and 19 years later he started talking on Friday the 13th. (Source)
