Today, Thursday November 17th, marked the two-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Just 60 days ago, a few hundred arrived at Wall Street to take up camp and occupy the area in protest to the greed and corruption within our government and corporations. The main stream media refused to cover the inaugural event instead covering such events such as the Tea Party. Many scoffed and did not believe this would take hold. Now the media cannot get enough coverage especially since this only brings in more profit. Look at how this has grown throughout the country with an Occupy movement in nearly every major city, and hundreds of smaller “home towns.” Not only has this spread throughout the United States, but has taken hold world-wide.
The People want change. The People want rights. The People want those who have manipulated the system due to greed to pay for their actions (Audit of the Federal Reserve Reveals $16 Trillion in Secret Bailouts). The People want fairness between the different levels of socioeconomic classes and are tired that the wealthy and the major corporations are able to receive tax breaks via loopholes which are not available to the 99% (Charts: And who just are the 1%?).
The People want equality and freedom, which now appear to have been taken from us while we were being lied to and spoon-fed false promises from our elected officials.
The police have been raiding camps all across the country for weeks now, but these past few days have shown a country we did not know existed. The First Amendment appears to be no more. City officials have raided camps all under the guise and excuses of poor sanitary conditions, and are using these reasons to deny the citizens of what we thought was a free country their right to peacefully protest. Police brutality, under the direction of the same city officials, is rampant. Batons are being thrust into the [unarmed] rib cages of people, including women of much smaller stature than the abusive officer. An Iraq vet, Scott Olsen, who fought for our country and came home alive and well, only came home to be critically injured by a police officer of the very country for which he fought. An 84-year-old woman was just pepper sprayed in Seattle.
Believe it or not… below displays what our country truly is now. A very sad day which needs to be written in our history books as the day America woke up and realized we were no longer truly free, and our constitution is no longer honored.
