Feminist’s Parody of Robin Thicke’s Hit Song “Blurred Lines” Rocks!
In response to the criticism surrounding “Blurred Lines,” an Auckland University student group, the Law Revue Girls, created “Defined Lines.” The parody reverses the original video’s gender roles, and rather than beautiful sexy women catering to men’s desires, it features hunky men catering to attractive women.
“Blurred Lines” has received all types of criticism from feminist groups all over the globe. Some go so far as to call it “straight up misogyny.” Hey, I’m all for equality between the genders and fight against sexism and misogyny, but I don’t feel the Thicke video is misogynistic. Sexist? Absolutely. Treating women as inferior? Depends on your point of view.
The definition of misogyny is a “hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.” Thicke’s video is quite the opposite. It shows men lusting for women and yes, treating them as sex objects. But not out of hatred. Out of lust, pure and simple. Lust.
However, there is one reoccurring refrain in Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” that I do NOT like, and feel that it may cause some women to be date-raped:
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
But you’re a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me
Think about it. Some guy who looks up and idolizes rap/music stars such as Thicke hear the artist’s saying that women “want it” – meaning sex – even though they say “no.” Of course there are women who play that game, but most don’t. Women want to have a good time with someone they’re attracted to, but there is no requirement for sex included.
I don’t particularly like the sexualization of women in this video, but you know, in order for women to be treated like this and sexualized in such a manner, there has to be predecessors. In other words, there are many women who enjoy being looked at and treated like a sex symbol, and have been participating in such acts for centuries. So, hey, it’s a free country. If that’s what you want, then go for it. Personally, I just stay away from men who treat women like they’re being treated in the video.
So out came, “Defined Lines” which is a complete reversal of roles. Women treating men as sex symbols. I think it’s great! Apparently, “Defined Lines” was removed from Youtube after being flagged for “inappropriate” sexual content. Seriously? Aw, hell. Just watch the uncensored version of “Blurred Lines” with women prancing around topless and wearing nude colored panties which give the illusion of being completely naked. That’s a lot more inappropriate than the parody. Probably a bunch of male chauvinists all getting their boxers in a bunch over seeing mean treated like sex objects by women.
In comparing the two videos, I actually like the voices and music of the women’s video better than I do the men’s video. The women’s version of the baby lamb in “Blurred Lines” is a hoot! And the lyrics? Woo-hoo!! You GO, ladies!
And what is up with the elevator shoes in “Blurred Lines”??? (pun intended)
Here are the two videos. Ladies first…. “Defined Lines.” Then the “rated” version of “Blurred Lines.” The unrated is here if you want to watch it.

It’s time to undermine The masculine confines ‘Cause we don’t wanna grind Gri-ii-iind.You think that you’re so slick, Let me emasculate ya! Because your precious dick Can’t beat my vibrator. We’re feelin’ the frustration From all the exploitation Prepare for your castration. So we can fuck this man’s world With all its bullshit. Girls don’t deserve it And that’s why we quit. We ain’t good girls. We are scholastic, Smart and sarcastic, Not fucking plastic. Listen mankind! If you wanna get nasty, Just don’t harass me. You can’t just grab me, That’s a sex crime! Yeah we don’t want it. It’s chauvinistic. You’re such a bigot! What you see on tv One thing I ask of you, So we can fuck this man’s world . . . . . . . . . . . . |
“Blurred Lines”lyrics [Intro: Pharrell] Everybody get up Everybody get up Hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey[Verse 1: Robin Thicke] If you can’t hear what I’m trying to say If you can’t read from the same page Maybe I’m going deaf, Maybe I’m going blind Maybe I’m out of my mind [Pharell:] Everybody get up[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke] OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature Just let me liberate you Hey, hey, hey You don’t need no papers Hey, hey, hey That man is not your maker [Chorus: Robin Thicke] [Verse 2: Robin Thicke] [Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke] [Chorus: Robin Thicke] [Verse 3: T.I.] [Bridge: Robin Thicke] [Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke] [Chorus: Robin Thicke] [Outro: Pharrell] |
I like this parody, except for the “Let me emasculate ya!/Because your precious d*** can’t beat my vibrator/Prepare for your castration”. Genital mutilation is never funny, regardless of gender. How would it be if the original song had lyrics about female circumcision?
