George Carlin was way ahead of his time. He saw what so many people did not see when it came to politics and government, religion, as well as society as a whole. In his unique way, George Carlin would turn the “wtf’s” in life into comedy. Although as we laugh at what he says, many of us realize that the facts behind the jokes are truly no laughing matter.

So what are you waiting for? Stop bitching about how bad things have gotten here in the US and do something about it.

Considering his health problems and that this was late in his career, the set is sort of macabre. Typical, perhaps, of his sense of humor.

I echo your feelings about George Carlin. I think down the road…some of the best stuff that happened during these politically weird times…happened in comedy. What little fire that was held to the feet of power came from the genre of comedy.

omg, GC is brilliant. He really told it like it was and is. Critical thinking is sparse…the majority would rather fork over their hard-earned cash to a flashy-suited nobody, not bat an eye, and roll back over on the couch and watch re-runs of American Idol. Not that I’m a super-star of always-informed decisions but I try to at least claim a headache so I don’t get screwed so often:)

  That or roll over in their clothes that are dirty and don’t fit which were given to them from the shelter or church, and continue to watch re-runs of American Idol, soap opera, or any other reality show. Anything to take them out of the world they’re living in because changing it is too difficult for them.

    Hear, hear! I’d like to get into John Q. Public’s head and tweak the dopamine a bit. What is it that makes stumbling along in a stupor so fulfilling? Change is downright scary but living in somebody else’s dream is stupifying to me.

      You hit the nail on the head… for most people, change is scary. But personally, most of the time I love it. I get bored easily, and too set in my ways. Change (for the good of course) is always welcome. Plus knowledge and awareness.

Between this guy and Bill Hicks, we had two of the most brutally honest and accurate commentators on life in America. And now both of ’em are dead. It’s a crying shame, because we need more people like this – badly.

    Bill Hicks was, possibly, even more blunt than Carlin. Carlin managed to win people over pretty easily, but Hicks was truly a jagged little pill. He was so far out there that he would sometimes make you cringe, but for the most part, he was firing bullseyes. His Wikiquote page gives you a good idea of where his head was at, but you really need to watch him do a routine on YouTube to see how funny he could be. http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bill_Hicks

How refreshing it is… to hear the unadulterated and unvarnished truth – spoken bluntly and clearly, and without any spin.

I’m reading all the posts of yours that I missed while I was really sick, and I’m doing it going backwards – and don’t try to tell me that you don’t like it that way! 😀

Carlin was not only a brilliant comedian, he also had some profound commentary on our society as a whole. Sometimes it was painful just how right he was about everything.
