When the 113th Congress was sworn in last week, a new record was set. There were a total of 100 women between the House and Senate. The House of Representative brought forth 80 to join the 20 from the Senate. A record. Slowly the good ol’ white boy network is being whittled away – as it should be. 
Also, for the record, women serving in Congress are much more likely to be Democrats than Republicans. Hmmmm… I wonder why that is… (blink blink) Of the 20 female senators – three more than last year – 17 are Democrats. Only Collins, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire are Republicans. In the House, 61 of the female members are Democrats, up from 53 the previous Congress, while 19 are Republicans, down from 24 last year.

I feel better now and hope that these women will be able to stop and backwards movement by the Republicans, especially when it comes to wanting to shut down Planned Parenthood and/or violating women’s reproductive rights. There are some very much-needed women here. Let’s hope their numbers continue to grow. Hmmmm… imagine an all-female Congress……… That will happen when I am the Queen of England. I’ll be happy with 50% during my lifetime.
